TRUE NORTH

Following a series of strictly sewn constructions, I wanted to make a hanging hemisphere of loosely hand-tacked pieces. The model came first, with layered quadrilaterals on a soft hemisphere, to generate pattern pieces. These were enlarged (x10) and used to cut and join the fabric. I was aiming for something almost from a dream, but that upon closer inspection would reveal its tangible logic. The look of this piece during deinstall (left) turned out to be closer to the vision than the actual hemisphere.
